Our Story
A decade of building websites for people who’d rather be doing anything else than think about their website.
The Short Version
Started With Nothing But Code
Go Cloud Labs started life as Go Cloud Software, a one-person consultancy. Our founder, Robin, built the very first website by hand — no CMS, just raw code, because that was the only way to get it done on a shoestring.
The Client Who Never Left
We registered a domain for a small pest control business in North Canterbury. That client, Combined Pest Control, is still with us today.
Becoming What We Actually Were
What started as business systems consulting had quietly become something else — we were spending more time on web design and branding than anything else. We rebranded to Go Cloud Labs to match where the work actually was.
Crossing the Ditch
Our first Australian project, working with a Perth-based not-for-profit, set the stage for a bigger move.
Choosing to Do One Thing Well
We made a deliberate call to specialise. Branding and marketing became their own studio, Omicron Digital, so Go Cloud Labs could focus purely on web design and development.
Quiet On Purpose
Quieter years by design. We weren't chasing new clients — we were making sure the ones we had, like Combined Pest Control, never had to think twice about their website.
Rebuilt From the Ground Up
A full rebrand, built around considered design principles and the gestalt pattern you'll see across this site today.
Why the Name Stuck
Back in 2014, “the cloud” was still a fairly new idea — most small businesses hadn’t moved anything off their own hardware yet. We had a hunch that was about to change, and we wanted a name that pointed at where things were heading, not where they’d been. It turned out to be a good bet.
